If you're from the Philippines you've probably heard of the island of Kalanggaman in social media.
My mother's hometown (Tacloban) was nearby Palompon. When we visited Tacloban we grabbed the chance to visit the famous island.
To get there it took us about 3 hours. We were driving a private car. It may take longer if you're commuting. When you reach Palompon, visit the ecotourism office to get a boat or it's better to book ahead of time since they are limiting the number of boats travelling to Kalanggaman.

Kalanggaman has one of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever witnessed. I love the peace and quiet that you can get from this island. So if you can, an overnight stay would be good. During my first visit there were no available rooms for rent just huts/cottages. We brought our own tent and food. It's best to come prepared especially when your DIY-ing your trip.

If you want to reach the end of the sand bar don't forget to bring your sunblock because the sun loves this island.
Our recent visit was way back 2018 with my cousins. Here's a short video of our trip:

It was worth the visit! The simplicity and serenity of the place was relaxing. I love how the local government limited the number of people entering the island. It makes your visit enjoyable and not worrying about crowded places.
We haven't tried exploring places nearby. Maybe on our next visit. Do you have any suggestions on where to go? Please leave a comment below. I'd be glad to hear about it.
